IT IS A METHOD OF TEACHING
Often referred to simply as “Feldenkrais”, this method is a somatic educational system designed by Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais. Feldenkrais practitioners aim to reduce pain or limitations in movement, to improve physical function, and to promote general well-being by increasing students’ awareness of themselves and by expanding students’ movement repertoire.
Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement
There are two ways of learning Feldenkrais: Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement.
FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION (FI) is a uniquely customized individual hands-on lesson, where the client rests, fully clothed, on a low table. The practitioner supports their movements, facilitating the learning of new patterns through skilled, gentle touch. Improve coordination and quality of movement naturally; improve posture and balance; prevent habitual tension from inhibiting your full movement potential.
AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT (ATM) is a vocally led group class, using use slow, gentle movements, usually lying down, but sometimes sitting or standing. Increase comfort in your shoulders, neck, back, legs and other areas. Apply these ingenious lessons to your own situation for surprising benefits — not only physically, but also in thinking, self-concept, and artistic performance. Appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.
